Finally got off my slacking rear to post up Blazblue Comic Fiesta 2009, and all in all, it was a really enjoyable event with the folks from The Figure Mall (TFM)/Little Akiba (LA) as usual, and if you’re wondering about the post picture, yes, i spent literally half day, on both days, playing Blazblue with fellow TFM member Franstormer and Sichiri at Game Axis booth (thanks fatcat Lim XD) LOL! Don’t think i am going to do much writeup/coverage considering the above with the remainder of my time spent manning at TFM figure display booth, you know, my precious figures were on display too and the so called “barricade” this year was even worse as it is capable of sending shock waves through our line of figures and having many close calls D:

Regardless, I still took a decent amount of pictures and it will still be worth the read up and i will be breaking them down in to “sections” so you may just focus on particular sections that interests you.

Main event: Comic Fiesta itself

Well, overall i would say it’s much better than the previous CF08, be it the event itself, or from my own part, i mean, i had to run around snapping in PNS and being in the same terribad lighting that is Sunway Convention hall, the pictures were entirely bad. This year though, at least i have a DSLR and while the lighting conditions were as bad as ever, at least i can still make due with some post processing and editing of the RAW pictures taken.

Staging was definitely better, as it was accessible from anywhere in the hall, so you can still catch the action wherever you are. And even the artists (which is the main ‘theme’ of this ACG event, art) have seen a lot of improvement than before, which includes but not limited to the doujin section.

I didn’t really went around and snap on every possible good artwork i come across as the doujin area is off limits for photography (which i am not sure if the media/blogger pass would exempt from that rule) and the ones displayed on the center section, like the one shown above, all come with spotlighting and it was REALLY HARD to get a good shot at it and not to mention the post processing phase to get the spot light glares off so that you may see the art instead of the glare.

Anyways i believe it had been voiced by many regarding the hall:
- transportation towards Sunway isn’t easy
- again, lighting lighting lighting, BAD!
- figure displayers: dust, seriously. so BAD. the amount of dust your figure can rack up in a day of display within sunway hall, would take at least a week+ should i display it in my own room outside my detolf glass case. and my room is fairly dusty.
- another figure displayer complaint: barricade. per figure, would easily cost up MYR300 to even 600+, in which some or most are really limited edition figures in which money would not even measure up should any accidents happen. If CF does not care about us bringing our own personal collections for display, i don’t think i (again, this is from my own personal viewpoint, NOT TFM as a group) would like to contribute in future figure displays.

Aside the above few complaints, i believe CF committee had done a really good job this year around in terms of improving the event as a whole. Of course, you can’t possibly please everyone, however if you’re at least trying, and there are improvements, i guess its better than nothing.

Moving on: Cosplayers

This year we’ve seen an increase in good quality cosplayers and while i may not be able to cover on all of them, other sites from linkinstreet/valho had done a really good job in said coverage and you may visit their site instead.

From my own shots, i have misshermes’s Anya from Code Geass, gender bended Yukimura, cosplayed by Annie, and Sheryl Nome, which i faild in not asking her name:

Excuse the mediocre pictures, harsh direct flash is a pain to PP, and again, terribad hall lighting. The only problem i had with cf09 cosplay was a Rachel cosplayer that, well, was really huge, and i (sadly) could not even tell if ‘it’ was a guy or gal cosplaying her. And yes, brain was damaged quite badly. I mean, no offense, but Rachel is a very small vampire loli, if you really have the passion to cosplaying, you would start shaving some size to better portray the character you are cosplaying, not outright murdering it. Oh, and guest18, which i will not further describe it as my brain was already hurting enough for even typing this out.

Speaking of Rachel Alucard, yeap, Blazblue

Had LOTS of fun at Game Axis booth playing Blazblue which i have recently came to enjoy thanks to Sichiri spamming poison of it. And that game had the most crowd on both days, which is pretty understandable lol!

Just came back from GACC 2009 at Melaka and thanks to finishing the day 1 pictures post processing during my stay at the apartment over there, the pictures are up for your viewing pleasure at strikingly fast speeds(well, compared to the other posts here anyways LOL!). For more information of GACC, you may visit here.

To start this, first off i want to thank Philip for helping us out with various stuffs during our stay in Melaka, Razrig for inviting me over else i would most likely forfeit this GACC trip ^^, Valho and Kuzuryu for being very generous and lending their lenses for me to play with, and all the pictures you are about to see, are being shot with their lens. Lets not forget Misao for letting me to join his First day Gekisou Haruhi photoshoot, jcdish on helping out for the Day2 Haruhi/Mikuru photoshoot, and LilKev84 for treating us on a nice Nyonya dinner during our stay. Apologies in advance if i miss out anyone else.

And to roughly summarize GACC, GACC is just like any other ACG (Anime Comic Games) events, considering they do not have any special/main attraction this year unlike the previous ones where they had the seiryuu of Amuro Ray and Kurosaki Ichigo. That said, GACC is amongst the best of Malaysia’s ACG events considering their experience, and being ran by Emina, truly by fans for fans deal unlike some other events i could name of heh.

And just like other ACG events I’ve been attending (deja vu on this one?), we started out by helping Beansprout setting up his booth:

And lets not forget the obligatory taugeh silly pose:

And yeah Exiled_Gundam was not amused. The fun part of setting up beansprout’s booth is that you also get to play around with his figures, and below is a good example of it:

The expression seemed off though, as generally one would be happy being tied to a pretty girl in bikini. Then again the idea of dying for it may not be so pleasant, i guess.

Really loving this Yuki Cross from Vampire knight too, and yes, the awesomeness that is prime lens:

Later on we went to lunch and oh boy, this pizza place we went, which is only available in Melaka btw, is just, wow. The amount of cheese is like double Pizza Hut, and it tastes great! Not to mention they are using those classic thick wooden pans too, which is rare these days especially the likes of pizza hut lol. And as they say it best, a picture is worth a thousand words:

The biggest thing i really about GACC is that it’s REALLY stuffy and i sweat a lot, so it’s as if I’m totally drenched throughout the event. To make it worse i am getting a lot of comments regarding it lol. Oh wells, really hope they can get a better hall next time around. Thankfully they still have some sweet spots to relax around and below is an example of it:

After a long hiatus, be it being randomly lazy or just simply busy (my new job, well, technically new job, sorta takes up a tad bit more of my private time.) hindering my posting, i think it is about time i continue working on Daicon. You know, i REALLY like to have a complete event write up and past track record isn’t doing well (AFA08/CF08 lol) and i am fearing for the upcoming GACC. The salvation to that though, is that I’m not an official media/blog affiliate for GACC nor am i interested in being one, so that would take a wee bit of “pressure” off and i could pretty much do as i pleased, which includes, not giving a shit a bout it at all… nah j/k lol. I am attending GACC ^^;

Phew! TONS and TONS of pictures to process from the photo shoot sessions of both days. Considering Jcdish did a fine job on the previous write ups (much thanks again!), and god knows when i would actually get my own write up done, i figured that the most appropriate thing to do now is to get out those much awaited pictures

Another thing to note, based on past ACG event experiences,  it would still take time for me regardless on the full day coverage pictures, and since most people are more eager for the main dish more than anything, i will first do a “highlight gallery” for Daicon 2009 Day 1, which are a few K-On cosplay photoshoot sessions. Later on i will post the full coverage pictures.

Just so i get this clear, i don’t watch k-on, not a single episode, and i don’t particularly hate it till now.(inb4flame) Almost a huge majority of first day pictures are k-on, something i *quite frankly* have zero interests with. Alas, i still went on with it simply because the cosplays are accurate and its being played by gorgeous/cute/pretty (insert moar appraisals ya?) girls. And boy am i glad i did went along. Not only did i learned something new from valho (will explain a little on a later post), the pictures I’ve taken were quite, surprising, even to myself. You be the judge:

Aside from the lack of proper wig and eye brow (really thick ones) for Mugi, Mio and Yui were pretty accurate. (Refer to the first picture) Unfortunately, Ritsu wasn’t present and i was informed that she is stuck in Austrafailia (hai shinn!)

Assuming you’ve already noticed the title and started going crazy with all the excitement (or in doubt for potential rick roll), yes, this is no April’s fool joke, the dates doesn’t show “1st April” – That’s right, popular Japanese seiyu (voice actor) and singer, Chihara Minori is visiting Malaysia to grace us at Daicon 2009!

Just in case if you’re still not familiar with this seiyu/singer, fear not, we will definitely provide as much info as possible, so here goes!

Daicon 2009, another ACG (AnimeComicGames) event happening at MMU Cyberjaya, Malaysia. This time around this seems a lot more promising with it being handled by Kurogane, also a fellow /AS/ member, and from the looks of it, outside the lack of big budget against events such as the previous AFA08, this one seems to be up for the best event of 2009. Imaginary Friends Studio is coming to Comic Fiesta!

That’s right! Imaginary Friends Studio (IFS), South East Asia’s Premier Concept Art group, will be coming to Comic Fiesta 2008! They’ll be bringing their artbooks, conducting live demos, and will be on hand to have meet-the-fans sessions throughout the day!

Aspiring artists should also bring their portfolios for reviews, cause IFS will also be at the Portfolio Pavilion too! If Art’s your life, like it is for Imaginary Friends Studios’ founder Artgem, then you won’t want to miss this!

Introducing… the Portfolio Pavilion!

First, we had life drawing sessions(I think its live, but eh could care less lulz) for the curious.

Now, artists, game designers and just about anyone interested can bring their portfolios for instant industry feedback at Comic Fiesta 2008! We’ll have industry bigwigs from companies such as Animasia Studios, Imaginary Friends Studios of Singapore, Foldees, GempakStarz, Eden Animation, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and more to review your portfolios! In fact, you may even catch the interest of these industry players and, perhaps, get a shot at working with them! All you need to do is bring yourself, your portfolio, and be at our Portfolio Pavilion* to get feedback for your works!

And yes, it’s completely FREE! Just attend Comic Fiesta 2008 @ Sunway Convention Centre on December 20 and December 21, 2008! Remember to get your tickets for Comic Fiesta 2008 if you haven’t already!

 

Why are we doing this?

Comic Fiesta was created for fans, by fans. Once most of us joined the working force, we realised that it was difficult for us fans to continue doing what we loved, as there was a gap between what we wanted to do, and what we were being offered. The Portfolio Pavilion was conceived to bring key representatives and icons from Malaysia’s, and its neighbouring region, comic industry closer to the fans, bridging this gap. So bring your best works and show them what you’re made of!

 

You never know if you’ll be offered a job on the spot based on your portfolio and your skills!

Just like the 1st IFS news, again, if art is your thing, by all means, check it out. Who knows you can continue your art passion not just as your hobby, but your actual profession and making a living out of it?

Thats right. DMM WILL be providing CF08 updates and coverage. Just like i did for AFA08 (again sorry on the slowpoke pace, 2nd day will be out soon! T_T) and expect slightly better content considering i am running around with the awesome media pass XD

Now what CF didnt really provided me to copy paste (damnit that means more work to do lol) is our GRAND Figure display hosted by our moe-kev from TheFigureMall.com! With over 200 figures ranging from Scaled figurines, Figmas*, to Nendoroids**. Located @ http://forums.comicfiesta.org/download/file.php?id=49 within CF2008. This easily makes TFM figure display at CF08 the biggest figure display event ever done outside of Japan! (feel free to correct me if otherwise) With such a significant happening in Malaysia, how can you miss it? More so for the folks staying at Kuala Lumpur area, or heck, anyone from all over Malaysia interested in ACG/Figurines should definitely make an effort to drag their ass over

Some explanation for the above asterix’ed terms:
* Figmas: Articulated action figure made by Max Factory. Usually comes with changeble body parts such as facial expressions, hands, head etc.

** Nendoroids: Cute moe bombs with bigger/bloated head, buncha swappable cutesy facial expressions, and usually comes with some accessory of sort. They are really short and “chibi’fied” to further emphasize on the moe factor.

“Hell, its about time.” <– i know right? lol. Like, it could’ve been out latest tuesday, but nooooo, tmnut screamyx decided to give me a nice surprise buttsecks, and threw me back to the stoneage. So like, i was stuck with some 2KB/sec uploads that constantly time out, and some filtered out 140ish pictures (just the first day – saturday) or so to upload to the server. Like yeah, not gonna happen.

Anyways off with the rage, more AFA08! So, like the usual eager fanboi packing his stuff for the trip, i magically left out my handphone as i left it to charge. And thanks to some crappy accident, or more specifically, THANK YOU MALAYSIANS for raping the traffic by slowing/stopping down their god damned cars to watch the scene, i never got to turn back to grab it.

So we got on the Aeroline bus, i turned on my lappie and expected to finish tetsuwan birdy decode first season 13 episodes, and holy crap our bus wangan’ed its way to customs in around 4hours time? /omg

Since we’ve arrived unexpectedly early, and the MRT stations are closed, we stopped by Mc’Donalds for some breakfast. I even get to play a game of  Warcraft3 online b.net rated match with the free wireless It was lulz as the opponent just gave me a free win by having Bloodmage hero + spell breakers + sorceress vs my Tauren chieftain + grunts + demolishers.

We finally reached our hotel – Hangout hotel @ Mt.Emily and we were at room518 with a pretty nice view too as shown above. Pretty nice hotel for ~50+ sing dollars per person per night. Even comes with a bath tub!

Finally its almost time for AFA08 after lazying around the hotel room that the staff is so kindly allowing us to check-in earlier than the designated check-in time. We took 2 taxis to Suntec City hall, splitting 3 person per taxi, and woohoo our taxi won LOL! Arrived earlier even though it started later, for lower price

The moment we came to the AFA08 entrance, it was really, how should i put it, awesome and despair at the same time, seeing a REALLY LONG line queue’ing. (although i expected a longer/crowider line/crowd considering its AFA08 ) Anyways me and Sichiri have Diamond VIP, so we managed to avoid the line, and had early EXCLUSIVE (read:FABULOUS) entry to AFA08

Lets not forget the TFM gang:

Even met this guy, aoshi’s friend (not E-Jump guys! LOL sorry on this misunderstanding)… which i couldnt remember the name -_-; (sorry!)

So we went in, first thing i see:

Like, i had to snap pictures of it, and pose myself with it. I mean, its Gundam Exia man!

Had fun scouting the entire hall (which is surprisingly “small” for an event this big) with most of the booths arent even fully prepared yet. Even saw the main stage being finalized:

Odex even have their own booth, having some Cassherntora for the lulz by playing Casshern Sins with ToraDora! background rofl:

After done scouting, i head on to the main stage myself and wait for the opening ceremony. The moment it started, everyone’s greeted by the kawaii-Reiko with her heart warming voice:

After the whole long epic (read: boring. lol) speech from the AFA08 geezers VIPs, Ichirou Mizuki suddenly suprise buttsecks the crowd with his PUMPED mazinger Z Song. like WOAH! that was a GOOD wake up call. Towards the end the crowds were even singing along with him and chanting “Aniki! Aniki!” (big/older brother).

The opening ceremony concluded shortly after with somemore speeches and stuff from both Ichirou/Reiko. I have to say, thanks to Ichirou, its one of the BEST event opening ceremony thus far in my experience. And there you go, AFA’08 officially begins!

Not much happenings between the time from now to lunch hour. I did however grabbed the WoW Series 3 figure set from DC comics for SGD80 (a set of 4 figures!) and Sichiri with myself, grabbing Alter’s Hazuki from Tsukuyomi Moon Phase anime for SGD30 XD After that we went to lunch at Marina Square with the /AS/ guys and TFM guys.

After lunch, while being utterly bored from the lack of cosplayers and happenings during the first half of AFA’08, me+E-jump+Sichiri happen to stumble upon some private interview of Kunio, the gundam guy Obviously we got a few shots ninja’ed before the staffs signaled us to leave and closed the room’s door XD

As the event goes by after lunch with more and more cosplayer showing up, we found… LOLI!

Like, suppressing unspeakable urges to kidnap this purple loli LOL! While im no fan of fate/stay night, and definitely never seen the anime/played the eroge (though mana transfer is pretty damn tempting LOL), i do *SLIGHTLY* know of their characters. (who doesnt know the MASS saber merchandises? lol) Unfortunately, i dont know this one in particular and after asking my friend, and some wiki, i found out that shes apparently some german loli named “Illyasviel von Einzbern”. Magic sperm you say? So THATS the secret ingredient for lolis? Now if only i can grab some magic…

Awhile after probably around 3-4ish PM, most of us returned to our hotel rooms from exhaustion (remember that midnight bus trip? no sleep? yeap.) The initial plan was to get going around 5-6+ PM to attend Ichirou Mizuki’s concert. However, we ALL epic failed minus one – E-jump. Most of us either overslept, or just didnt want to move anymore.

Some summary + full gallery consisting of around 120 pictures arranged chronologically:

• AFA 08 is, win.
• Diamond VIP FABULOUS exclusive entrance wins.
• Ichirou Mizuki is win, my regret? Not attending his winsauce concert T_T
• Cheap. fucking. figures.
• ^ i bought 5. lulz
• I wonder if Reiko’s japanese or chinese, seemed hard to tell, not because of her non-sucky english, but she said she love “xiao ding dang” - Doraemon in chinese during a chat (this is day 2 btw, IINM XD)
• WHY NO MAJOR FIGURE COMPANY THEMSELVES COMING?!
• Kinda failsauced on the glass displayed figures, bad for cameras especially my crap PNS
• I have a good number of the figures being displayed on that day, and the entire TFM gang prolly have most of em. (japanese pvc figurines, mostly females, that is)
• No PVC figures exclusives (lotsa ancient treasures though!)
• 1/100 gundam 00 is exclusively sold earlier in AFA08

PHEW! Thats it for now. Thanks for your patient to those that are having that eternal wait for this slowpoke.jpg update. Dont worry folks, theres another major update for DAY TWOOOOOOOOOOOO. (will try my best to speed this one up this time around >_<)
